Our Projects.

Matlock

In June 2024 DDCE completed our first installation of solar panels on Twiggs Stores in Matlock, in partnership with the Big Solar Co-op.

Twiggs are now benefiting from fixed-price, low cost electricity bills, as well as a reduced carbon footprint. This was the first community energy project for the town and DDCE is very proud to be supporting Matlock’s journey towards net zero.

Bakewell.

DDCE is currently running two feasibility studies, thanks to CEF Stage 1 funding:

The first project, due for completion in April 2025, is exploring how to achieve sustainable energy use at Bakewell Golf Club. The project is led by DDCE board member, Dave, alongside T4 Sustainability consultants. We are looking at energy efficiency measures to reduce overall energy use, alongside opportunities for on-site renewable energy generation.

Solar Car Parks

The second project, due for completion in July 2025, explores the feasibility of installing solar car park canopies in various car parks within the Derbyshire Dales. The project is led by DDCE staff member, Lucy, alongside Sharenergy technical consultants. There are no community-owned solar car parks in the UK, so we are taking an innovative approach to investigate whether it’s a viable model!

Both projects involve local community engagement and consultation, which is a wonderful way to engage Dales residents in issues of climate change and resilience, as well as address any concerns that people may have.

As we expand our membership, we are keen to develop further community energy projects in the area and are always keen to hear from individuals or groups who would like to explore or develop new ideas.
