Case study: Matlock Rugby Union Football Club
We have been engaging with Matlock RUFC following a request from Engineering Manager Mark Packard.
They are in the process of building a new clubhouse and were considering the addition of solar panels and batteries to reduce the cost of running the floodlights. DDCE identified the potential for 100kWp of solar PV on the roof, which could be installed as a community energy project. We then looked at the building’s energy usage and discussed heating and cooling using an air-to-air heat pump, sharing the data insights from our Bakewell Golf Club feasibility study.
The results…
Following our meeting, Matlock RUFC decided to install high-efficiency, low-carbon heat pumps instead of a fossil fuel-based LPG (liquid petroleum gas) system. A win for the planet!
However, we discovered a severe electricity export limitation, which meant the 100kWp solar panel system was unviable. Matlock RUFC can install a lower quantity of panels, which they will self-fund ~ a definite asset to the club in reducing their electricity bills, and another win for the climate ~ but not, on this occasion, a contribution to community-owned energy.
